My Apprenticeship at Fine Marketing

Lotti, new apprentice at Fine Marketing

About Me

Hi, my name is Lotti and I recently started working at Fine Marketing UK to finish my course in digital marketing. I have a deep passion for graphic design and illustration and have been drawing since I was 14 years old. I have turned my hobby into commission work by selling stickers, prints and making custom drawings for clients. I developed an interest in digital marketing through my graphic design work and developed a curiosity into data-driven marketing by exploring current trends through my day to day life and seeing what gets people talking about certain trends and businesses.

Working at Fine Marketing: my first few weeks

I started the continuation of my apprenticeship with Fine Marketing in February 2025. The first few weeks have been a big eye opener into the world of marketing and the pros and cons of representing multiple brands with different identities and audiences. In this document I will catalogue my experience so far, as well as my goals moving forward during the remainder of my tenure.

Understanding Digital Marketing Best Practices and Nuances

Going into the marketing world, it was a shock to realise how granular you can get when optimising for the greatest impact. For example, the ever-growing opportunities and goals raised by clients which need action. The opportunity to learn a wide range of digital skill sets, from Brightlocal to Eventbrite, has been a great way to develop my skills as a marketer, especially when presented with the opportunity to understand my impact through analytics dashboards such as Google Analytics. Julia has been an excellent mentor, patiently guiding me through the workflow in many applications with different use cases. Some examples include Sendible, Constant Contact, Mailerlite and more. It is fulfilling to see my work create an impact on live platforms, actively driving sales and interaction on relevant sites. Organisation is a key aspect of marketing, ensuring that everything is in the correct place and organised appropriately when it is delivered to the client. For this, Dropbox has been an invaluable tool, which I have used to hone my organisational skills and follow best practices for delivering a final product.

Knowing your clients

An important factor is getting to know your clients’ brand identity, tone of voice and what platforms are most beneficial to their customers. One of the most important things to learn is where you need to serve your brand messaging in order to reach your core audience. At first, this is a difficult thing to ascertain, however I have begun developing my eye for engagement, and use available data to make informed decisions about where to serve my content. For example, one of our clients, V.R. Flowers, a furniture store based in Seaford with a carpeting store in Lewes, use Facebook for most of their marketing, which is down to their demographic being likely older, more community focused and use Facebook as a social space, where they will actively be engaging with content. Learning that paid ads on Facebook may generate different levels of return on investment depending on the target audience of the business, such as the target demographic using Facebook more often than most, is key knowledge. Understanding social media trends and how they intersect with a given audience has been a very valuable learning insight I have been able to explore, as well as exploring how these trends can be capitalised in order to increase reach and engagement.

What I hope to get out of this apprenticeship

Julia has been an amazing mentor. Kind, patient and understanding, she has given me a thorough introduction into the marketing workflow by allowing me to work with many wonderful clients around Sussex. Learning about these businesses and always having something new to do has been a very enjoyable experience so far. I will learn about how to create a great end-user experience which will drive engagement and interaction, create articles and blog posts and work with ad campaigns independently to create new engagement and profit for our businesses. I’d like to make meaningful connections with clients and become part of an efficient team. My hope for the future in marketing is to become a valuable team player in a fast paced and developing marketing team, where my talents can flourish. I would like to run ad campaigns, work with websites, create graphics and social media posts for said company as well as be an approachable and friendly presence who is always up for learning more and working hard. I am passionate about marketing because of the impact my work can have on a business and building meaningful connections with clients.
